Pippa Middleton dislikes being called a "party girl" and a "socialite"

Updated

Pippa Middleton, the newly engaged younger sister to the Duchess of Cambridge(née Kate Middleton), would prefer if there was less focus on those particular qualifiers in her life. Being sister-in-law to royals surely comes with its advantages, but there's one record she'd like to set straight.

"People see me as someone privileged who has used my position to advantage," Middleton told the Daily Mail, "that I don't really work, that I am a socialite—that word really irritates me—and that I'm a party girl without any substance."

She added, "People seem to think I must have lots of support helping me but I don't, it's just me."

See what Pippa Middleton used to look like:

Socialite, party girl: few would relish these labels. To combat the caricatures, she's publishing a second book called Heartfelt to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. The book is a risky move, since her first, Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends, was (per the Daily Mail) critically panned, but this one stays closer to what she knows: fitness and food. "I would like to say I have made every single one, but I have definitely done a good 80 percent of them," she hedged. "I made a lot of the dishes at home."

Pippa said that she and her fiancé, hedge-fund manager James Matthew, are still trying to adjust to the reality of being connected to the British royal family, and all the paparazzi and headlines that entails. "I guess it's become the new normal for us," she said. "It means there are factors we have to weigh up and think about, but we try not to let it affect us. I try not to be too sensitive about things because it's just a bit of life I have to deal with. But I would be lying if I said it didn't affect me."
