How to wake up without caffeine

As I am starting to shift into a more natural lifestyle one of the things I'm working on giving up is coffee. As soon as I wake up I instantly want to run to Starbucks or head straight for the coffee pot. My problem is that I can't drink coffee without some kind of yummy creamer which is full of sugar that I don't need. So now I'm on a mission to find alternatives to waking up without coffee. I've found three things so far that really work for me.

  1. Wake Up With Water
    One of the reasons why we feel so groggy in the mornings is because we are a little dehydrated. Our body hasn't had water in 8+ hours. Caffeine actually dehydrates us even more which is why you will feel a crash a few hours later and end up dying for an afternoon coffee break. I promise if you just chug a cup of cold water as soon as you wake up, you will get a burst of energy and naturally just feel better. If plain old water isn't enough then try adding lemon for an extra burst. It may take some time to get used to but after awhile it will just become a habit to run for your water in the morning.
  2. Get Moving
    I started working out in the morning to just get it out of the way so I wouldn't make excuses in the evenings but now its one of my favorite ways to wake up. Even if you only have the energy to do a stretching or light yoga routine, I promise it will help! If you can though, I recommend doing some form of cardio because that is what really gives me a lot of energy and I usually maintain that energy level for the rest of the day. When I don't work out in the morning, I'm usually more sluggish throughout the day.
  3. Switch Up Your Shampoo & Conditioner
    I recently purchased Pureology Hydrate conditioner after reading several great reviews on how moisturizing it is however, it turned out to serve a dual purpose. The scent is SUPER minty and instantly wakes me up in the morning. I have to warn you if you don't like the scent of mint then you will hate this conditioner because it is very overpowering but for me it works!
