A Starbucks customer was rude to a barista -- What happened next is extraordinary

This doesn't happen very often, if at all.

Respect is a dying art. It used to be normal, almost common. Now, it's often unusual or even strangely archaic. So when a woman went through a Starbucks and behaved badly, perhaps the barista wasn't surprised.

Indeed, the barista -- handle CircleAddict -- posted to Reddit: "A woman came through the drive through yesterday and got a little irritated with me because we didn't have drink carriers."

Another day, another dolor. That's the life of a barista, right?

Except for what happened next.

"Today," wrote CircleAddict, "she came back and handed me this."

This was a card with many words.

It began: "Greetings Starbuck barista!"

Ah, so she was in a better mood now?

It seems so. She continued: "Yesterday at your drive thru we had a less than cheerful encounter. At no fault of yours, you were out of carriers and said you could not take my empty cup (trash). I was less than understanding and my manner was curt.

I need to apologize. The thought of leaving a trail of unkindness like that is not the path I want to reflect. Not for you, not for me.

You are a young man, clearly working hard to build a future and you should be commended. Keep up your attitude of cheer and hope. Stay hopeful no matter what kind of people cross your path (or drive thru :) )

Surly [sic], God has good blessing in store.

You taught this ole lady something yesterday about kindness, compassion and staying humble.

I thank you! Debbie

God bless you today and all your todays."

How many times do we stop and consider how we've behaved and resolve to actually do something about it?

Some people might have chosen to avoid that Starbucks in the future. Some might have gone back and behaved as if nothing had happened.

What Debbie did wasn't merely honest, but thoughtful.

So thoughtful, in fact, that she added a $50 bill to her card as a little tip.

Now that is the sort of self-aware humanity we could do with a little more of, wouldn't you say?
