Alec Baldwin rebuffs Trump’s call for new ‘SNL’ impersonator: ‘I’d like to hang in there for the impeachment’

Alec Baldwin fired back at Donald Trump after the president’s late-night tweet mocking the actor who impersonates him on “Saturday Night Live” and calling for former castmember Darrell Hammond to replace him.

Responding from his AB Foundation Twitter handle, Baldwin wrote that he would “like to hang in there for the impeachment hearings, the resignation speech, the farewell helicopter ride to Mara-A-Lago. You know. The Good Stuff. That we’ve all been waiting for.”

In another tweet, the actor asked the president to ask First Lady Melania Trump to “stop calling me for SNL tickets” — before squeezing in a plug that former NBA star and current basketball commentator Charles Barkley will host this week’s episode.

In an early morning tweet riddled with typos — including misspelling the actor’s name as “Alex Baldwin” — Trump blasted Baldwin and his “mediocre career” and called on the show to “Bring Back Darrell Hammond, much funner and a far greater talent.”

POTUS also responded to the actor’s comments made to THR published on Thursday, where he said: “Every time I do it now, it’s like agony. Agony. I can’t.”

Trump took the opportunity to put in another dig at Baldwin: “Alec, it was agony for those who were forced to watch.”

The typo-filled tweet went out at 2:42 a.m. PT, and was deleted not long after and replaced a half-hour later with a new version of the tweet with the three errors corrected. In addition to the misspelled name, Trump also botched the spelling of “dying,” spelling it instead as “dieing.”

Baldwin has been playing Trump on “SNL” since the beginning of season 42 just prior to the 2016 election, and has continued in the role through this season though the frequency of his appearances has been waning.

Baldwin only appeared as Trump in one of the four “SNL” episodes that has aired so far this year. The show returns from a month-long hiatus on Saturday.
