Here's what Matt Lauer texted Hoda Kotb when he found out she was replacing him on 'Today'

Hoda Kotb received a text message from Matt Lauer on Tuesday morning after revealing that she'd been tapped to permanently fill his co-anchor seat on the "Today" show.

Speaking to E! News, Kotb revealed that Lauer "said some nice words" to her in a private text message on Tuesday.

"He was sweet this morning," she said. "Certain texts popped up, and there was one from Matt: 'Congratulations!' It meant the world to me to hear from him. It was really nice."

Unlike the rest of Kotb's "Today" co-hosts, who took to Twitter to support her after the announcement, Lauer hasn't congratulated her publicly. In fact, he has yet to speak publicly since his initial statement in response to his firing on November 30.

On Tuesday, adding to Kotb's comments about Lauer, co-anchor Savannah Guthrie revealed that she's been in contact with Lauer in the month or so since his firing.

"We've kept in touch and we've all been reaching out and, you know, I don't think there's anyone who would be more thrilled than Matt to see Hoda in this role," she said to E!. "He adores Hoda and he knows how good she is and so I know that to be true."
