‘House of Cards’ showrunner Beau Willimon calls Kevin Spacey allegations ‘deeply troubling’

Former “House of Cards” showrunner Beau Willimon has called the sexual misconduct allegations against series star Kevin Spacey “deeply troubling” but asserts that he was unaware of any inappropriate behavior during his four seasons on the Netflix drama.

Willimon, who is also president of the Writers Guild of America East, issued a statement on the heels of the explosive Buzzfeed News article published Sunday night in which actor Anthony Rapp alleges that Spacey made a sexual overture to him back in 1986, when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26.

“Anthony Rapp’s story is deeply troubling,” Willimon said. “During the time I worked with Kevin Spacey on ‘House of Cards,’ I neither witnessed nor was aware of any inappropriate behavior on set or off. That said, I take reports of such behavior seriously and this is no exception. I feel for Mr. Rapp and I support his courage.”

Spacey said Sunday that he does not remember the encounter — which Rapp said came after a party at Spacey’s New York City apartment — but apologized to Rapp “for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.”
