Harvey Weinstein sues The Weinstein Company over access to records

Harvey Weinstein has filed suit against The Weinstein Company, demanding access to records as a sexual misconduct scandal continues to envelop him.

Weinstein filed suit in Delaware on Thursday, saying that his legal team sent a letter to The Weinstein Company on Oct. 18, demanding to inspect all emails sent to and from Weinstein’s email address, his complete personnel and employment file, and the Code of Conduct from Weinstein’s employment agreement.

While the Code of Conduct was provided, the suit says, The Weinstein Company rejected the requests to inspect the emails or personnel file.

According to the lawsuit, Weinstein’s legal team needs access to the records to “assist in his defense of civil and criminal allegations arising out of or in connection with his employment at TWC and potentially to aid in investigating claims arising out of the wrongful termination of his employment.”

Weinstein was terminated from The Weinstein Company on Oct. 8, days after a bombshell New York Times article containing accusations of sexual misconduct on his part was published.

Eric Schneiderman, the attorney general of New York, announced earlier this month that he had opened a civil-rights investigation into The Weinstein Company. The Weinstein Company has also been hit with a $5 million lawsuit filed by one of Weinstein’s accusers. According to the suit, Weinstein’s ability to review the records would help “determine whether there is any exculpatory information in those files that would assist the Company in defending against any claims.”

Since the publication of the Times article and a subsequent New Yorker article containing more accusations, numerous women have come forward to accuse the movie mogul of misconduct.

Weinstein has denied any non-consensual behavior.

The Weinstein Company has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
