Jake Gyllenhaal and Boston Marathon survivor Jeff Bauman attend 'Stronger' premiere

Updated

Few people deserve the Hollywood treatment more than Jeff Bauman -- and he got it on Tuesday.

Jeff Bauman walked side-by-side with Jake Gyllenhaal, who portrays him onscreen in his new film "Stronger." The word certainly applies to Bauman: In 2013, Bauman was at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, cheering on his future wife, when terrorist bombs exploded. After emergency surgery, Bauman woke up to discover both legs amputated.

Both men looked handsome as ever in dark suits -- could they not pass for real-life brothers?! They've spent quite a bit of time together over the past year: In 2016, during filming, they hit a Boston Red Sox game together, and just last week they palled around at a joint panel discussion at the Toronto Film Festival.

"From the moment I met Jeff, I was intimidated," Gyllenhaal told local news station WBZ-TV.. "I was nervous. I was nervous to try and tell his story as honestly as I could."

Many of the doctors, nurses and other hospital personell who treated Bauman play themselves in the movie.

"Stronger," based on Bauman's memoir, is out September 22.
