Howard Stern reveals reason for his controversial 'personal day'

Howard Stern finally broke his silence on the controversial "personal day" he took last week -- and it turns out he was just sick!

The 63-year-old SiriusXM host unexpectedly went off air with no known explanation last Wednesday. The radio personality has reportedly never taken a day off since his show launched in 1985, causing fans to panic and theorize on his whereabouts.

"There was a lot of speculation, 'Where was I on Wednesday?' Many people pointed out that me taking what they call a 'personal day,' by the way, I never said 'personal day.' I didn't take a personal day, I took a sick day and I'm still sick, you can still hear it in my voice," Stern said on his show on Monday.

He then continued his epic rant, fully establishing that he's an adult who can do whatever he wants:

"Why was it such a big deal that I took a f–-king day off? I wanted to take off today because my voice is still shot, but I was afraid to. I felt so f--king guilty. I missed a day of work and all of a sudden it's bigger news than James Comey." said Stern. "These a---s started calling my mother's house, what am I, 5? If I miss a day of work, you don't call my mother, you call my wife, I'm married. They're calling my mother to see why I'm missing school."

Many theories emerged on social media, including some pretty outrageous ones. Fans speculated that one of his parents died after one Reddit user claimed that Stern once said that it would be the only reason he'd take a day off.

His wife, Beth, revealed that "everything is great" on Friday after madness ensued on the internet -- and it turns out she was right!
