'Fixer Upper' star Chip Gaines' former business partners sue him for fraud

They can't catch a break!

Chip Gaines, star of the HGTV hit "Fixer Upper," is being sued for millions by two of his former Magnolia Realty business partners for fraud.

Gaines' two former partners, John L. Lewis and Richard L. Clark, are seeking more than $1 million, according to a 24-page lawsuit filed Thursday in Waco's 170th State District Court.

Lewis and Clark claimed in the suit that Gaines forced them to accept cheap buyouts and failed to tell them that HGTV decided to broadcast their show (which features the Magnolia name) in order to leave him the sole owner of the company.

The lawsuit alleges that Chip and Jo were working on the HGTV deal for months without telling his business partners. John and Richard sold their shares of Magnolia Realty for $2,500 each and then two days later HGTV announced that they had picked up "Fixer Upper." The announcement significantly skyrocketed the company's value.

The two also claimed that Gaines threatened to open up a competing realty company if they didn't sell their shares of the company. It also included a threatening text message that Chip allegedly sent one of the men:

"You better tell Rick to be careful. I don't come from the nerdy prep school he's from. And when people talk to me that way they get their asses kicked. And if he's not ready to do that he better shut his mouth. I'm not the toughest guy there is, but I can assure you that would not end well for [R]ick," Chip wrote.

Chip's attorney, Jordan Mayfield, said he and his client, "are confident that these claims will be found to be meritless, and it is disappointing to see people try to take advantage of the hard work and success of Chip and Joanna Gaines."

The "Fixer Upper" couple are now in their fourth season of their hit show, and have recently announced a spinoff in the works!

This isn't the first time in the past year that the Gaines couple have suffered some legal trouble. They were slammed with another scathing lawsuit just a couple of months ago involving a woman who visited popular tourist attraction Magnolia Market. She sued for an alleged head injury she suffered back in June 2016.

They were also feuding with the owners of the property next to their store over the location of the fence separating the two pieces of land.
