Gretchen Carlson reveals her daughter was bullied after her FOX News sexual harassment lawsuit

Updated

Gretchen Carlson's decision to come forward with her claims that she was sexually harassed at FOX News by former CEO Roger Ailes didn't just have consequences for her -- it also had consequences for her children.

The former FOX News correspondent revealed to AOL Entertainment at Tuesday night's Time 100 Gala that her daughter, Kaia Close, 13, was bullied after Carlson filed her lawsuit back in July of 2016.

"My kids inspire me," she told us. "My daughter actually took care of a couple of bullies that were bugging her after my story unfolded. She told me, 'Mommy, I did it because I saw what you did.' That was incredible."

Carlson, who shares Kaia and 12-year-old son, Christian, with her husband Casey Close, famously filed a lawsuit against the cable news network, claiming that she had been fired after refusing Ailes' sexual advances towards her. After she came forward with her claims, numerous other women shared their own stories, too -- something she said she "had no idea" was going to happen.

"I jumped off the cliff by myself on July 6, 2016, and I had no idea what was below," she told AOL Entertainment on Tuesday night. "So the idea that I've empowered even one other person to come forward is absolutely surreal to me and incredible. I think it's incredibly important to see that this movement has been started. There are so many other women at other companies -- at technology companies like Uber and Kay Jewelers -- who said, 'Look, we're not going to be sexually harassed anymore.'"

Carlson's lawsuit -- and the cascade of other claims that followed it -- eventually resulted in Ailes' ousting from FOX News. She was honored for her bravery as one of the most influential people in the world on this year's Time 100 list.
