The real reason Duchess Kate and Prince William don't hold hands in public

Updated

Duchess Kate and Prince William may be one of the most famous couples in the world, but they differ from most lovebirds in one way -- they don't hold hands in public.

And while they're still happily in love, there's another reason they refrain from traditional displays of affection during public appearances.

A body language expert revealed to Daily Mail that they're taking cues from the queen, who rarely holds hands with her husband of almost 70 years, Prince Philip. The Queen of England set a royal precedent that Kate and William are simply following.

The expert also said that despite their lack of affection during official state appearances, the two are actually emotionally close. We're not surprised. With all the adorable photos of them together during public outings, the chemistry is totally obvious!

Prince William also refrains from another tradition -- he doesn't wear a wedding ring. It's just not his thing! In fact, the royal family released a statement before his 2011 nuptials to confirm he wouldn't be wearing a ring because of "personal preference."

The royal couple tied the knot in a grand Westminster Abbey affair in April 2011 after dating on and off for 10 years. Their family of two grew to four with the birth of their two kiddos, Princess Charlotte, 2, and Prince George, 3.
