Holy $#!%: New Jersey residents listed as having biggest potty mouths in America

Science says that New Jerseyans have an adeptness for swearing.

In a study released by Masstricht University in the Netherlands that links profanity to integrity, researchers concluded that Garden State residents curse more than those in any other U.S. state.

And by that measure, they are also more trustworthy, researchers say.

"The consistent findings across the studies suggest that the positive relation between profanity and honesty is robust, and that the relationship found at the individual level indeed translates to the society level," the study states.

The idea is that people who use foul language are less concerned about what others think of them, and therefore are less likely to lie.

During one part of the study, researchers asked more than 276 participants to report their own use of profanity in their daily lives, explain why they used foul language and were then tested on a lie-scale.

Scientists also examined over 70,000 Facebook interactions and found that those who used profanity were associated with more honest language markers in their status updates.
