First lady Melania Trump turns heads 'eating' jewelry on the cover of Vanity Fair Mexico

Amid President Donald Trump's tensions with the country of Mexico, the February issue of Vanity Fair Mexico has been unveiled with First lady Melania Trump on the cover.

Reports of Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto canceling his meeting with Trump over POTUS' plans to proceed with his idea of building a wall between the two countries emerged Thursday, despite Trump saying that the decision was mutual.

As if recent tensions don't make the cover controversial enough, it isn't just your ordinary cover, either. Have a look:

Yes, Melania is indeed "eating" a bowl of jewelry -- properly twirling one necklace like spaghetti.

In another shot inside the magazine, she's "drinking" a cup of jewelry, like iced coffee:

The cover is unsurprisingly already sparking backlash.

As Mic reports, one Instagram user commented on the magazine's Instagram post, saying:

"I hope you know just how irresponsible it is to have the wife of the man who called Mexicans drug dealers, rapist and murderers on the cover. If what you wanted was attention I hope you got it and I hope that doesn't let you sleep at night. History will remember this."

If Vanity Fair Mexico responds to the outcry, we'll keep you posted.
