Monopoly might ditch classic game pieces for emojis

Updated

The next time you play Monopoly, you might not get to use your favorite game piece.

Hasbro says, "no token is safe." That's because for the first time in 82 years, the company is letting the public vote to either keep the classic game pieces or go with entirely new options, like a wink face emoji, kissy face emoji, a hashtag symbol or a T-Rex.

Back in 2013, they ditched the iron token for a cat, after fans voted on Facebook.

This time around, gamers can head to VoteMonopoly.com to vote on their eight favorite figurines that will be featured in the upcoming version of the game.

Of the 64 suggestions listed; 56 are brand new, and inspired by social media and pop culture.

There's no limit to how many times you can vote. Voting ends January 31st.

The winning tokens will be revealed in March, and the latest version of the game will be out this fall and cost about $20.

If your favorite new piece doesn't make the cut, no worries.

Hasbro says they're releasing a separate limited-edition version called Monopoly Signature Token Collection Edition with all 64 tokens.
