Hospital credits Eric Trump with $16.3M in fundraising

Eric Trump appears to have been cleared of suspicion that his charitable foundation had not raised as much for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as he said it had.

Questions had been raised since he revealed that his foundation helped to generate more than $15 million in funding for the hospital, but tax records showed a much smaller amount.

However, on Friday, the New York Times reported that Trump provided them with a letter sent to him by a St. Jude fundraising executive which confirms that "...since its establishment, the Eric Trump Foundation had raised — or helped raise through affiliated groups — $16.3 million for the hospital."

The discrepancy is believed to have occurred because of a relatively common delay in the tax records of non-profit organizations.

According to the Washington Post, the president-elect's son announced on December 22 that his foundation would be suspending its fundraising activities due to possible issues involving donations and access to his family.

Donald Trump expressed his displeasure over the situation the following day, tweeting, "My wonderful son, Eric, will no longer be allowed to raise money for children with cancer because of a possible conflict of interest with my presidency. Isn't this a ridiculous shame? He loves these kids, has raised millions of dollars for them, and now must stop. Wrong answer!"
