Malia and Sasha Obama's White House swing set has been donated to charity

Updated

The transition to the Trump White House is happening, as the Obamas have already begun the moving-out process. One thing to go? A swing set that was purchased for Malia and Sasha Obama in 2009 when they were just 10 and 7 years old.

The Rainbow-brand wooden structure, which bares a plaque that reads "Malia & Sasha's Castle" and has a slide, a fort, a climbing wall and rope, three regular swings, a tire swing, and a picnic table etched with the names of all 44 presidents, has been donated to a local organization that serves the needy, a White House official confirmed to CNN.

Before the swing set was donated to charity, CNN reports a White House Official said it was offered to the Trump family, who declined to keep it. Trump's son Barron is 10 years old, but he and his mother Melania reportedly won't be moving to the White House when Trump is sworn into office.

CBS's Mark Knoller first reported the swing set's removal.

A spokesperson for the First Lady told Today that when Sasha and Malia first received the swing set, which was purchased during their first spring in the White House to "make the White House feel like home," they squealed with delight and ran right for it.

The Associated Press also reported that Obama had resisted the urge to test out the swing set, which was visible from the Oval Office, himself, but he had pushed his daughters on the swings. The President also invited the children of White House staffers and the White House press corps to play on the set.

So long, swings.
