Former UKIP leader says Brexit directly led to Trump presidency

They've been compared before - but never like this.

Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage is claiming Brexit directly led to Donald Trump winning the U.S. presidency.

Farage said, "...it is Brexit that directly led to the establishment getting beaten on the 8th of November, and Donald J. Trump about to take the presidency...we were the inspiration behind much of that."

Farage made the comments during a speech after being replaced as leader of Britain's populist U.K. Independence Party by European Parliament member Paul Nuttall.

But he didn't stop there, Farage also suggested the aftermath of both Brexit and Trump would continue to inspire populist movements across Europe. He suggested Italy, Germany, Netherlands and France could feel the effects next.
