According to officials, a truck is believed to have bumped into the car, causing it to flip.

The vehicle's passengers, none of whom were seriously injured, were unable to locate the infant with them so the local firefighters began searching the area, reports the Texarkana Gazette.

There were reports of sounds coming from some hay so the team cleared it to uncover a storm drain underneath.

Firefighter Josh Moore is quoted as saying, "The baby at the time – the 8-month-old – was actually sitting down in the grate, sitting up and looking up at us waiting for us to pull her out. She wasn't screaming, she wasn't crying, was just sitting there waiting for us."

According to KSLA, officials have confirmed that the child was not properly secured in the car, and they think that after the accident, she ended up in the drain.

Police have indicated that the driver of the truck suspected of triggering the accident will be cited.
