Mom's dire plate conundrum sends the internet into a frenzy

Updated

It's one thing for a magician to yank a tablecloth from the dinner table and have the silverware and glasses stay in place ... but how would they solve this problem?

After one very panicked stay-at-home mother snapped a photo of a dire conundrum she was facing, the internet rallied to try and help her figure out how to open her cupboard without breaking all her dishes.

The frenzy first began when a Facebook user by the name of Tseng Shao-Tsen shared the photo taken by his female friend in the Taiwan-based Facebook community page "Baoliao Commune," with the caption, "[This is] a cupboard that can never be opened."

And by the looks of it, he seems right.

The post has spread like wildfire on the Chinese social media network Weibo, as well as on Facebook, where the original post accrued over 16,000 reactions and more than 550 comments.

Several of the comments suggested softening the fall, literally, by placing thick blankets, quilts or mattresses underneath.

Another user jokingly suggested flooding the whole room with water, so when the door is opened, the plates float out.

Plenty of other users suggested giving up and buying new plates.

Luckily for the owner of the dishes, all's well that ends well!

Shao-Tsen told the DailyMail that his friend was able to solve the problem by opening one door slightly before squeezing her hand in to grab the precarious plates.

Holding on, she slowly opened the door until she was able to push them back into place.

"All plates we're safe," he added.
