Leonard Cohen died from a fall, singer-songwriter's manager says

Singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen's cause of death last week was from a fall, according to his manager.

"Leonard Cohen died during his sleep following a fall in the middle of the night on Nov. 7," Cohen's manager Robert B. Kory said in a statement to the New York Times Wednesday. "The death was sudden, unexpected and peaceful."

News of Cohen's passing came last Thursday, Nov. 10, in a post on the singer's official Facebook page. "It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away," the post read. "We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries."

Cohen's death, at the age of 82, came just a few weeks after the release of his final album, "You Want It Darker." According to the Times, Cohen was also working on two other musical projects and a book of poetry at the time of his death.

A prolific musician, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner released 14 studio albums during his decades-long career. His most famous composition, "Hallelujah," has been recorded by over 200 artists and became especially popular after it was used in 9/11 memorial tributes.

Cohen's son, Adam Cohen, paid tribute to his father on Facebook, after the singer was laid to rest in Montreal next to his parents.

"As I write this I'm thinking of my father's unique blend of self-deprecation and dignity, his approachable elegance, his charisma without audacity, his old-world gentlemanliness and the hand-forged tower of his work. There's so much I wish I could thank him for, just one last time," the younger Cohen wrote.

"I'd thank him for the comfort he always provided, for the wisdom he dispensed, for the marathon conversations, for his dazzling wit and humor," he continued. "I'd thank him for giving me, and teaching me to love Montreal and Greece. And I'd thank him for music; first for his music which seduced me as a boy, then for his encouragement of my own music, and finally for the privilege of being able to make music with him."
