People were buzzing — the vibe was upbeat and positive towards the start of the evening.

Katy Perry and Khizr Khan took the stage before a crowd outside to deliver statements of passion and hope.

The streets were filled with 'Hillary for President' merchandise and chants of, "I believe that she will win!"

But, as the polls closed and the votes poured in — the atmosphere quickly shifted.

Many supporters became agitated and tense as some states remained 'too close to call' for hours.

As key states turned red, mixed emotions washed over Clinton's supporters.

The mood at the end of the evening was somber.

Hope seemed to dwindle with the atmosphere feeling more like a wake than a party.

Heading into the 1 o'clock hour, crowds began to mourn what they believed to be the inevitable — Hillary Clinton had lost the election.

We attempted to speak with those who stayed behind until the election was called.

But many were unable to form their feelings into words.

Clinton campaign manager John Podesta took the stage, comforting supporters and asking them to head home and rest.

The area was silent as crowds obeyed filing out of the venue.

Almost simultaneously, phones started to ping with news blasts that she lost.

People stood in the streets outside the glass venue — their faces of disbelief looked like stone.
