Independent McMullin: I'm not a 'wasted vote'

Updated

Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin made his final pitch on Monday to voters in Utah, the one state where the third-party candidate could make a mark on the electoral map.

McMullin, a former CIA operative who once served as the chief policy director of the House Republican Conference, is only on the ballot in 11 states and as a write-in candidate in 23 more.

But in Utah, the devout Mormon is neck-and-neck in polls with the two main party candidates. McMullin reminded voters that a ballot cast in his name would not be in vain.

"A wasted vote is a vote for someone who doesn't share your values, who has no respect for you, and who has done tremendous damage to our country already," McMullin said. "That's a wasted vote."

McMullin has billed himself as the anti-Donald Trump conservative and principled alternative to Hillary Clinton.

And should he pull through a win in the state on Tuesday night, McMullin could be a spoiler as Trump seeks a pathway to the Oval Office.
