This J.Crew line is shutting down

It's the end of a very chic bridal era. Today it was revealed that J.Crew would be shuttering its bridal collection immediately, due to lagging sales. That means no more modern-girl gowns, actually cute bridesmaid dresses, or dreamy catalogs that made wedding season seem, not only survivable, but fun. Damn.

According to Racked, who broke the story on Friday, the costly materials needed for bridal gowns, plus the small segment of shoppers actually looking to buy one, led to the decision to close the business. Racked also alluded to the fact that while J.Crew was among the first affordable retails to launch a bridal collection, today practically everyone has one. From H&M to Modcloth and Anthropologie and Reformation, it's true that fashion-forward brides on a budget have plenty of options these days.

There is a small silver lining—or two, actually. One, you can get everything in J.Crew's wedding section for more than 50% off right now. That means bridesmaid dresses for as low as $50 and bridal gowns for around $500. Two, once the inventory sells out J.Crew plans to roll out a new line of party and special occasion dresses in bold prints and colors. So if you were one of the many women who secretly bought J.Crew bridesmaid dresses to wear as a wedding guest, save your tears. There are bright color floral dresses and feather-accented LBDs in your future.
