Sophia Grace recounts the amazing moment she realized she was going to be on 'The Ellen Show'
By now, most of us are familiar with viral stars -- people who all of a sudden shoot to fame on social media, whether that be through Vine, Facebook, YouTube or other. But perhaps one of the most viral stars of our time is 13-year-old Sophia Grace and her cousin Rosie Mclelland from Essex, England.
The two uploaded a video to YouTube, with the help of their parents, in 2011 that quickly went viral. It was a rendition of Nicki Minaj's hit "Super Bass". It now has over 51 million views on the social media video network, and got noticed by celebs like P. Diddy and Nicky Minaj herself.
Since then, the duo have made a name for themselves in the world of music, and earlier this year Sophia released her single "The Girl in the Mirror" ft. Silento.
We had the chance to sit down with Sophia and chat with her about her rise to fame, the future and more. Check out part one of the interview below!

When did you first remember falling in love with music?
I've loved music since I was really young. Even when I was 3 years old I used to sing songs whether they were nursery rhymes or real songs. I really enjoyed listening to music and I love singing as well.
What kind of music did you grow up listening to?
I grew up listening to all kinds of different music. Even when I was a baby, I needed my mom to play a slow song and rock me to sleep. I just love all different music – rap music, ballads, and I love all types of music.
How did you initially decide to put your music on YouTube?
I always watched YouTubers, and when we first did the Nicki Minaj video we had to create a YouTube channel, so I've had mine since then. As I got older I started uploading more videos like vlogs and challenges and things like that. I love doing YouTube.
Going back to the first video you posted – the Nicki Minaj one – did you ever anticipate it to go that viral?
We were just messing around. We thought we'd put it on YouTube to see what people think. My family always said I had a good voice, and that I should put it on YouTube. My mom and dad said they didn't want to do that, but the rest of my family said if my parents wouldn't then they would. So, my parents put it up on YouTube. My auntie was the only one who had an iPhone at the time. She was going to film me singing Nicki Minaj. Rosie happened to be at my house playing dress up so we thought we would just stand there and look cute and sing along and dance. The first time it had 7 views, then we looked again the next day and it had like 100 views, and then celebrities started tweeting it, like Puff Daddy and Justin Bieber and it went crazy.
What was going through your mind at that point?
I was going crazy! I didn't really know what was going on. I was so young; I had only just turned 8, and Rosie didn't know either, she was only 4. For my mom and dad, and Rosie's mom and dad, it was all really exciting. They couldn't believe Puff Daddy had tweeted us. It was crazy.
What was it like when you get the call from Ellen asking you to be on her show?
My dad was driving on the highway and all of a sudden he got a call from "The Ellen Show" and they asked us to fly over and come on the show to perform Nicki Minaj's song. My dad didn't know what The Ellen show was, and then he found out it was a really big, popular show in America. They flew me and my cousin and all of us out to America and we thought nothing was going to happen. We thought it would be a little show and then we would go home and then nothing would come of it. Once we went on the show everything went crazy. Ellen started letting us go to awards ceremonies. It was just amazing.
You also had a segment on "Ellen" – Tea Time – what was it like for you getting to interview all of those celebrities?
They approached us and said they'd like to do a segment with Sophia and Rosie called Tea Time where we interview celebrities. We actually interviewed really big celebrities like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber and Katy Perry. It was amazing. At the end of it Rosie and I were so excited because they used to give us sugar cookies.
What has been the biggest pinch me moment of your life so far?
The most exciting thing for me is when I get to go to awards shows and watch all of the people perform. It's so amazing. They're so close up it's so cool.
