Service dog escapes death row after DNA test clears him of murder
A dog who was accused of killing another canine and ordered to be euthanized has been returned to his owner, reports the Associated Press.
The situation began in Michigan on August 24 when Jeb, a Belgian Malinois service dog, was spotted standing close to the dead body of a neighbor's pet Pomeranian.
Because the smaller dog had signs of being handled by a larger animal, a judge ruled that Jeb would have to be put down.
However, a DNA test was also ordered, and the results showed that Jeb was not guilty of the fatal attack, notes the Detroit Free Press.
On November 2, the dog was sent home to his owner, a disabled veteran named Kenneth Job, who was reportedly moved by the reunion.
He and his family are expected to comply with stipulations of the release which include additional fencing and insurance.
