Mariah Carey and James Packer's split turns into a war of words

One day after news broke that Mariah Carey and her billionaire fiancé, James Packer, were calling it quits, the split has already taken an ugly turn.

In direct contradiction with the statement that Carey's rep issued yesterday, which said that the couple was "trying to work it out," a source close to Packer says that that's definitely not the case.

They "definitely won't be getting back together now," the Packer source told PEOPLE.

In response to a Carey source claiming that she dumped him because he "has not been in a mentally healthy place" and because "his behavior was not a desirable situation for Mariah," the Packer source didn't mince words.

It's "typical Mariah to just twist things that don't sound good to her," the source explained. They split because she has issues. James is definitely an oddball, but a brilliant great guy. To put her issues on James is ridiculous."

Initial reports about the breakup indicated that the split was caused by Carey's excessive spending habits and her willingness to put their life out in public on her upcoming reality series, "Mariah's World."

Both Packer and Carey had been married twice before getting engaged in January.
