Super Saver Food: Greek Yogurt!

Updated

Greek yogurt can be a healthy snack, but it can also be surprisingly versatile in the kitchen! Here are a few different ways to use this super-food to help you save some big bucks.

First, if you love mayo but don't love the extra calories and fat, Greek yogurt can make a great mayo substitute. Sure, the taste isn't identical, but using different flavors like vanilla or lemon, can get you that creamy texture without too much extra sweetness.

And for a healthier alternative to cream cheese, scoop some Greek yogurt into a strainer lined with cheesecloth. Let it drain for at least two hours - the longer you drain, the thicker the consistency will be. You can even throw in some herbs & spices to flavor it however you want.

Making simple, healthy veggie dip is a breeze too. If you have any seasonings sitting around, like garlic, ranch or onion, all you have to do is mix some of that into your yogurt and you're done, with just a few twists of the wrist!

Lastly, remember that all Greek yogurts are not created equal. Some contain more sugar, while others can have less protein...so read the labels and make sure you know what you're buying!

So try having your Greek yogurt do double-duty in the kitchen...not only will you save money, you'll be doing your body good as well.
