Is it Alzheimer's? Other reasons for forgetfulness

It's normal to forget where we placed our keys once in awhile. Everyone occasionally spaces on their neighbor's name or forgets that last item at the grocery store. We're busy people -- we get distracted!

However, these foggy symptoms may get a little more worrisome as we age. While Alzheimer's is not considered a "normal part" of getting older, many people with the disease are above 65. So sometimes, people are quick to associate forgetfulness with dementia.

That being said, there are many other reasons you've been forgetful. It could be your daily meds -- even Benadryl can mess with your memory! It could also be depression, exhaustion or anxiety. Sleep, understandably, "negatively impact[s] memory and thinking abilities", said Dr. Drag. If your brain is under a lot of stress, that may have something to do with it.

Your foggy mind may also be a result of alcohol or heart disease. Or, it could just be a sign of aging in general. After all, there's a lot of information up there!

But if you do find yourself lost while driving or forgetting loved ones, it may be time to consult a doctor.
