Playstation VR: The free games and demos you can download now

Sony's Playstation VR launches today, and if you're lucky enough/rich enough to be getting one, then you're going to want something to play on it and then show off to friends and relatives. If you've already spent $399 on buying the thing, you probably don't want to spend still more on new games, and we've already discovered from our Playstation VR Worlds review that you can easily spend $40 on, well, not much. Handily Sony has packed the PS Store with new stuff to try out for free. It's like Vita launch day all over again - only hopefully with a happier ending this time.

There are some region exclusives but the US gets the best collection, as far as we can tell. The first thing you should hit up is a great Sony-collected demo compilation, which you can download for nothing: simply search the Playstation Store for "Playstation VR demo disc" and you can get the following:

  • Allumette

  • Battlezone

  • DriveClub VR

  • EVE: Valkyrie

  • Gnog

  • Harmonix Music VR

  • Headmaster

  • Here They Lie

  • Job Simulator

  • PlayStation VR Worlds

  • Resident Evil 7 biohazard - Kitchen Teaser

  • Rez Infinite

  • RIGS Mechanized Combat League

  • Thumper

  • Tumble VR

  • Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

  • Wayward Sky

  • Within

Once you've got through all those, it's time to find the other PSVR demos on the Playstation Store. Currently, the lineup is as follows:

  • Alumette

  • Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live

  • Harmonix Music VR

  • INVASION!

  • The Playroom VR

  • Tumble VR

  • Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

  • Within

  • World War Toons Beta

There is also a demo of SuperHyperCube, although as far as we can work out that's only available outside the US at the moment. If that's not enough to keep you busy, there are a few non-gaming apps available too. Specifically, these three:

  • Hulu App

  • Littlstar VR Cinema App

  • Vrideo App

It's a pretty strong selection to kick off your first day of Playstation VR ownership, so get downloading and give them a try. Hopefully there'll be more demos and free trials launching in the near future - if the platform is a success, then there'll be more incentive for publishers to put out demos for other titles like Batman Arkham VR and, uh, Summer Lesson.
