An Indoor Football League franchise is allowing fans to run the team

Have you ever dreamed of owning your own sports team?

Imagine a real-life version of fantasy football. A place where you could make every decision from the coaching, to the front office decisions and beyond.

Now, meet FANchise -- the first ever fan-run pro sports franchise.

FANchise's app-based platform is allowing fans to build an Indoor Football League team from the ground up –- from choosing the name, designing the logo and mascot, picking the cheerleaders, hiring the GM and coaching staff, deciding the players that make the roster and even calling plays in real-time during the game.

Former NFL linebacker and current FANchise ambassador Al Wilson said the platform is an unparalleled experience for any football fan –- from the average supporters to the die-hard fans.

"I knew the fans would love the idea, but I didn't think they would love it as much as they are," Wilson said. "It gives them access to a franchise and that's something they haven't had up to this point."

Fans have already "bought in" to the concept. Over 30,000 people have registered with representatives from all 50 states and 21 different countries. They decided on a name -- the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles -- and they're in the process of signing players to the squad.

Levels of involvement in the FANchise community:

Wilson said it might realistically take some time for the team to reach championship caliber, but eventually, winning is the expectation.

"We don't expect them to go out and win a championship the first year, but we do expect that in the near future," he said.

As a former player himself, he has experienced the difficulties that might arise within an organization firsthand. His ambassador role with FANchise will allow him to act as a "middleman" between the players and the owners to ensure success on both sides.

"I think we kind of have an understanding of what the players need and also what the owners demand and need from the players," Wilson said.
