High school volleyball player stuns crowd with impromptu rendition of National Anthem

A high school volleyball match in San Antonio, Texas, on October 7 was set to start with the national anthem.

But when the song didn't play, there was only silence –- until one student stepped up to the mic.

"We were about to stand for the national anthem as we noticed that the CD wasn't working," Maria Garcia, a senior and volleyball player at Holmes High School, told KSAT. "I didn't feel nervous. I felt, like, excited because I get to sing."

Luckily for the whole team, a spectator caught the stunning performance on tape so the whole world could see.

Naturally, her day-saving performance was met with cheers from both teams and a standing ovation from the crowd.

Even though Garcia says she'll hold the moment dear forever, she mostly brushed it off as being no big deal.

"I've been singing since I could start talking and I've been in choir since 3rd grade," Garcia humbly told ABC News about her vocal capabilities.

If sports don't quite work out for her, we think she may have a very promising backup career.
