Jessie James Decker talks about her kids, tailgating and her exciting plans for new music

Jessie James Decker is done with reality TV. The country singer, who you may recognize from her E! reality show, "Eric & Jessie: Game On," is instead focusing on her music career and her family.

Though she credits the show with expanding her platform and allowing her to reach millions more people, she calls her two seasons on the show with her husband a chapter that is "closed now."

With that time in front of the illuminating cameras of reality television behind her, Decker has her eyes set on conquering the country charts, with the insanely catchy "Lights Down Low" set to impact radio later this month after a summer making a major splash online.

We recently sat down with Jessie James Decker at the RITZ Football Homegate event to talk about her family, her partnership with RITZ, tailgating and her singing career.

Talk to me about your partnership with RITZ and why it felt like a good fit for you.

It was super natural because I've always been a RITZ Crackers fan. I grew up eating Ritz, so it's pretty cool to be able to be involved in something with them. It's really all about just bringing people and friendly rivals together, so, being a football wife, it couldn't be more perfect. I love the idea of creating different RITZ Cracker recipes for tailgating events -- I always have a lot of football wives over to my house during away games, so it actually gave me some cool ideas to be able to serve some of these at my parties.

And do your kids enjoy them, too?

Oh, that's a no-brainer! They love RITZ Crackers.

Did you think of any fun recipes for them to try?

To be honest, I just give my kids cheese with their RITZ. When I wake up, that's kind of my thing: I chop up a bunch of yellow cheddar, and they feast on that. I used to do peanut butter, but it got really messy. [Laughs]

As the wife of a football player, surely you've been to a ton of tailgates over the years, but what does your ideal tailgate look like?

I typically can't do your typical outside thing just because it gets a little crazy. At my house I'll usually do a bunch of grilled chicken and hors d'oeuvres, iced tea and beer. I like to keep it pretty simple, but just make sure it's fun.

Do your kids enjoy watching you sing and your husband play football?

They do! They love it. My daughter actually just came with me to the Opry, which I just sang at. But at the same time she's saying, "Daddy football! I wanna see daddy football!" It's great. I feel like we make her proud.

Obviously, a lot of your fans -- including me -- loved watching you and Eric on your E! reality show, "Eric & Jessie: Game On." Do you ever miss having the cameras around?

Not really. I mean, I'm grateful for it because I do feel like it gave me a much bigger platform. But I feel like that was a chapter, and it's closed now. I am open to television, though -- I love television. I love being involved in the creative of TV, so I'm definitely in the middle of trying to create some new stuff right now. But I will probably never do that again.

A lot of celebrity moms talk about what they choose to post and not post on social media when it comes to their children, and they all seem to have different guidelines that they abide by. How do you navigate what you choose to post and not post?

I feel like I post things like any other mom would, especially when it comes to proud moments. I'm definitely smart about it, though: I never post our exact location, where we're going or where we go. I always am very conscious about never giving out that sort of information.

Let's talk music! What do you have coming up?

My single, "Lights Down Low," will hit radio October 23. I'm also going to L.A. tomorrow -- I have three shows that I'm doing -- and then, other than that, I have an album coming out by the end of the year!

"Lights Down Low" was received very well online. How does it feel when that happens to something you've worked so hard on?

It's cool, because it's validation. I worked so hard, and I wrote the song. You wrote the song with the hope that people will like it, so it feels good.

Finally, who in the landscape of country music really excites you right now? Who's doing the coolest stuff?

I'm loving what Maren Morris is doing. We're signed to the same publishing company, so I've known Maren for a while; I knew her before she blew up. She deserves it. She's a great singer-songwriter, and she works her butt off. I'm just happy another female is really paving the way.

Everyone roots for each other, and all of the girls are so great. Maren and Kelsey and RaeLynn have all e-mailed me songs in the past few months pitching them for my album. We're all really sweet to one another, so it's just nice.
