Owner Todd Lavoie became alarmed when the 11-year-old dog was barking at a wall outlet -- until he realized there were sparks coming out of it. The sparks evolved into flames, and Lavoie had to get the fire extinguisher.

"During this entire time, the fire alarms were still going off, the dog was still barking at the outlet," Lavoie told local news station KTVB.

He credits Jaxson with warning him about the fire. He said, "[Jaxson] was notifying me that, hey, something is wrong in the house."

Jaxson will be receiving the Meridian Hometown Hero Award, and he is the first dog to do so.
