Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's children are in therapy: 'Younger kids don't understand what's going on'

Angelina Jolie's decision to file for divorce from Brad Pitt wasn't an easy one, and it's been difficult on the entire family -- especially on the couple's six children.

Inside sources revealed exclusively to PEOPLE magazine that the children, along with Jolie and Pitt, will partake in family therapy, in addition to individual counseling.

Though Jolie "is staying strong for her kids," reports PEOPLE's source, "it's been a traumatic situation."

Since the announcement, the actress has been with her children in a rental home in Malibu and the kids have been spending most of their time doing activities that helped to take their mind off of the heartbreaking situation, like swimming and watching movies.

"They didn't leave the rental house for days," another source said. "It was hard for all of them. They are used to more activities and more entertainment, so it's difficult for them to just stay at the house. The younger kids don't understand what's going on."

Jolie and Pitt struck a temporary deal last week that called for the kids to stay with Jolie for the time being, while her soon-to-be ex-husband is allowed visitation.

More to come.
