Woman with cancer passes away the day before her wedding

Many look forward to their wedding day for years, even if they are not in a relationship. This woman did not see it happen, and the reason why is heartbreaking.

Anna Swabey was diagnosed with cancer in January 2015, but she did not want to give up on love. Despite being told she only had a few years left, she joined Tinder after a suggestion from her sister. She met Andy Bell on the app and they fell in love.

Bell proposed to her after 10 months of dating. Swabey wrote that she cried when he got down on one knee because "if we went ahead, he'd be a widower before he was 30." Bell, however, said he would rather be married to her for a short time than never at all.

Swabey wrote about her life with terminal brain cancer on her blog, Inside My Head. Her goal was to raise awareness as well as funds to fight the disease.

This summer, Swabey discovered that her condition worsened and she had stage 4 cancer. She and Bell kept planning their wedding, with the planned date September 17.

Unfortunately, on September 16, Swabey passed away at 25-years-old. Her family posted to her Inside My Head Facebook page on her behalf:

"I cannot put into words the heartbreak we all feel," the post said, "but amongst our sadness, we are so proud of her courage, her spirit and the determination she showed throughout her illness."

Swabey's sister, Victoria Cartwright, submitted a statement to Today after the passing. She discussed how Swabey managed to raise over $120,000 for cancer research and plan a wedding, all while battling the disease herself.

She said that she and her family will continue Swabey's work so that her legacy will live on. "Anna lived. She really lived," Cartwright said.
