2-year-old sneaks out of the house for a joy ride

A toddler sneaked out of his home in South Carolina in the middle of the night to go on an joy ride in his battery-operated car Sunday, police said.

Inside Edition reports that he left the house wearing nothing but sweat pants and a diaper while his parents were sleeping around 2 a.m.

The 2-year-old got behind the wheel of his BMW x6 toy car and enjoyed the ride of his life.

It didn't last long before someone spotted the fancy little car, which reportedly had tail lights and silver rims, about a quarter of a mile away from his house according to police.

"It seems he just slipped out during the night and started driving down the road,"Ken Bell, the public information officer for the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, told Inside Edition. "If he would have gone any further he would have hit a main road.

Bell said that the boy was not scared at all, and he seemed fine aside from his confusion about being taken to the police station.

Police found the boy's parents by following small tire marks to the by's home.

"The police asked them if they had a 2-year-old son and they said yes," Bell told Inside Edition. "Police asked him to check if he was in bed and he wasn't. They were shocked."

No charges were filed against the parents, but authorities suggested they put a chain lock on the door.
