Homecoming king gives his crown to his friend with cerebral palsy

High school can be a tough time -- and if you have a medical condition, it could be even harder. One football quarterback recognized this, and did a selfless act for his friend.

Max Akin is a football quarterback at his school, Fossil Ridge High School in Keller-Fort Worth, Texas. Both Akin and his friend, K.L. Norwood, were nominated for homecoming king. Norwood is the team manager and has cerebral palsy.

Akin won the crown, but did not keep it for long. "I saw K.L., came over and gave him a hug," he told local news station WFAA, "and I knew that he wanted that crown more than anything."

He then kneeled and presented Norwood with the crown. Fossil Ridge Head Coach Tony Baccarini Tweeted a photo of the act:

"Max -- that's just what he is, and that's what our team is, too," Baccarini said. "They love each other, and that's why we're successful."

Photographer Karl Duncan Tweeted the moment as well:

"It was absolutely terrific," Norwood said. Social media agreed: many have liked and retweeted the photos.

Akin explained that he believed Norwood deserved the crown. "I think it should've gone to the person who positively uplifts the school and everybody around him," he said, "and that person is K.L., for sure."

The crowd proceeded to cheer Norwood's name after Akin gave him the crown. Akin said, "Everybody was going wild for him. Everybody loves K.L. at this school."
