WATCH LIVE: Trump and Clinton field questions at commander-in-chief forum

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will both take the stage Wednesday night to make their case for being the next commander in chief.

Each candidate will take part in their own respective live in-depth interviews, fielding questions from "Today" host Matt Lauer and from the audience made up of veterans and active service members.

The main topics that will reportedly be discussed will center around national security, the military, and veterans affairs. The event is set to start at 8 p.m. Eastern, and will air simultaneously on NBC and MSNBC.

While both presidential hopefuls won't appear on stage together during Wednesday's "Commander-in-Chief Forum," the broadcast does mark the first time Trump and Clinton will be featured on the same event during the campaign.

Clinton and Trump will meet face-to-face at the first presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. on Sept. 26.
