Tiny mockingbird gets custom snowshoes to fix her broken feet

Updated

When a little mockingbird was brought into the California Wildlife Center (CWC) outside of Los Angeles in need of some help, she ended up with both a cure for her ailment and a brand new pair of shoes.

According to the CWC's website, the bird was suffering from a condition known as "knuckling feet," which causes her toes to curl up under her feet and make it difficult to stand.

Luckily for the bird, the condition is apparently pretty common, so the center knew exactly what to do to fix her problem.

And luckily for us, the solution was these adorable TINY SNOW SHOES.

CWC veterinary staff whipped up this crafty cure — made from cardboard and tape — which forces her toes back into their proper position.

"We needed to train her feet back to how they should be," one of the center's veterinarians told The Dodo, adding that it usually takes a week or two before the bird's feet are back to normal.

And so far, it seems to be working beautifully.

"The treatment was successful," said the CWC on their website. "The bird is now snowshoe-free and on the road to full recovery!"
