A live-action Pokémon movie is finally in the works.

After numerous installments of the Pokémon TV show and animated movies as well as the massive success of the Pokémon Go mobile game, Legendary Entertainment has won the rights to the first live-action Pokémon movie.

But don't expect Ash, Misty or Brock to make an appearance just yet.

The movie will be based on an upcoming Japanese Nintendo DS game called "Detective Pikachu."

The trailer for the game features a talking Pikachu in a Sherlock Holmes hat.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" writer Nicole Perlman is slated to write the Pokémon movie script, along with Alex Hirsch who wrote for cult favorite Disney cartoon "Gravity Falls."

Universal Pictures will distribute the movie outside of Japan.

Details on the film are top secret, which means Pokémon trainers will have to wait.

Production on the Pokémon film will not be a go until 2017.
