Chocolate fig smoothie bowl
Chocolate meets figs... is there any better combination? Here in Charleston, South Carolina we are currently smoothie-obsessed. In this crazy heat, it's a convenient way to cool down and gain a boost of energy with all the feel-good ingredients and nutrients. The great thing about smoothies is that really anything goes when it comes to toppings and ingredients. Greens, frozen fruit, super foods, protein powders, nuts and seeds... you name it. The combinations are endless. I always recommend my clients to pack their smoothies with leafy greens and a touch of sweetness. Just enough fruit can mask their bitter taste and you still reap those health benefits. Leafy greens are some of the most nutrient-dense foods we can feed our body- the darker the better!
Now this chocolate fig smoothie bowl may look indulgent but it is made with good-for-you ingredients that boast coveted nutrients. Personally, I love a little chocolate in my oats or smoothie bowls when I'm in a sweet mood. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants – so a little here and there can help protect our heart.
Cocoa: Cocoa powder comes from cocoa beans which are then processed into chocolate liquor. Once most of the fat is removed the remaining paste is dried and powdered. The powder provides fiber, protein and antioxidants that fight against free radicals to combat the aging process.
Figs: Figs are a good source of dietary fiber, which aids satiety and keeps blood sugar levels even-keel.
