Story behind heartbreaking dog meme will make you cry even harder
For the past week, people have been sharing this dog comic like crazy:
The comic, which was published by Übertool, features a dog thanking its owner for the love it has been given in its life before being put down.
The man behind Übertool, Mark Gavin, told BuzzFeed News that he got the idea for the comic he drew in 2014 after seeing a post on Reddit.
"The person was writing about a note they had received from a veterinarian's office after they had to put their dog down. The note basically said, 'Don't ever forget you were responsible for giving your dog a great life,'" he said.
He said the post stuck with him, and he imagined the dog saying the same thing to its owner.
"If they could, they would console the person, even if they knew they were going to die," he told BuzzFeed News.
Gavin said the post will pop up from time to time when they connect with it.
He thinks the comments are heartbreaking, too.
