One of our favorite parts of listening to music is figuring out who or what the song is about. We decided to sift through some of the most famous songs throughout history and find out who their written about. Some may surprise you.

11.) Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" -- Warren Beatty

Back in September, Carly Simon announced that her famous tune was partly about Warren Betty, but went on to say there are other references in the song to two other men. But who can they be?!

10.) Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" -- Britney Spears

As we all know, Brit and Justin ended their three year long relationship back in 2002, and because they're both musicians of course Justin released "Cry Me a River" that same year. With lyrics like "you don't have to say what you did, I already know, I found out from him," it's tough not to see the blame.

9.) Britney Spears' "Everytime" -- Justin Timberlake

"Everytime" is pretty much the clap back to JT's "Cry Me a River." Brit sings "my weakness caused you pain, and this song's my sorry."

8.) John Mayer's "Your Body is a Wonderland" -- Jennifer Love Hewitt

It's been widely rumored that John Mayer's famous hit is about his ex-Jennifer Love Hewitt. However, the actress spoke out against the rumor saying "My body is far from a wonderland. My body is more like a pawnshop. There's a lot of interesting things put together, and if you look closely you'd probably be excited, but at first glance, not so much."

7.) John Lennon's "How Do You Sleep?" -- Paul McCartney

An urban legend associates Lennon's song is actually about Paul McCartney after the infamous Beatles break up.

6.) Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" -- Courtney Love

Love once called Stefani a "cheerleader" in the press, so of course, Gwen came back with "Hollaback Girl." It may or may not have something to do with the fact Courtney Love once said she could see her and Stefani's former ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, "I kind of envisioned that me and Gavin Rossdale would end up on the French Riviera, like, taking tennis lessons and f---ing our respective polo teachers," Love told ABC back in 2013.

5.) Selena Gomez's "The Heart Wants What It Wants" -- Justin Bieber

As we all know, Selena and Justin had quite the on and off again relationship, but Selena gave the whole ordeal the break up song treatment and released the song in 2014. "Everybody wants to form their own opinions anyway. I think the biggest problem I had this year -- even with [Justin] and on his side -- is identity," Gomez told Ryan Seacrest when the song came out.

4.) Amy Winehouse's "Me and Mr. Jones" -- Nas

It's safe to say Amy and Nas' relationship was pretty well documented and of course, they collaborated on music as well. Nas' last name is Jones, so you could pretty much put the pieces together.

3.) Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" -- Marylin Monroe/Princess Diana

It's pretty obvious from the Grammy winner's opening with "Goodbye Norma Jean." However, in 1997, Elton rewrote the song after Princess Diana's death.

2.) Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" -- Caroline Kennedy

It has been widely known that Diamond wrote the famous tune about Jackie and JFK's daughter, but recently Diamond revealed that's only partly true. "I was writing a song in Memphis, Tennessee, for a session. I needed a three-syllable name. The song was about my wife at the time — her name was Marsha — and I couldn't get a 'Marsha' rhyme." Enter "Caroline"!

1.) Taylor Swift's "Back to December" -- Taylor Lautner

While it's safe to say we could have done an entire list on just T. Swift songs, this might be one of our favorites. Fans assumed Taylor's famous song was in fact about the "Twilight" hunk, and just recently he did confirm the fact. So there you go!
