Boy Among 19 Shot on Deadliest Day in Chicago in Over a Decade

CHICAGO – Police are still searching for suspects in the shooting that injured a 10-year-old boy Monday night.

Tavon Tanner was shot outside his family's home in the Lawndale neighborhood. He was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital and underwent a four hour surgery. He remains in the hospital

Police say Tavon was standing on the sidewalk in the 3900 block of West Polk St around 10 p.m. last night when gunfire erupted in the neighborhood.

Other family members were on the porch and made it to safety inside but then soon realized Tavon was hit.

Tavon's twin's sister was unharmed.

Chicago police say this is the latest incident among more than a dozen involving a child shot as unintended targets in the city's gang-gun wars.

Just last month a 4-year-old boy was shot at 57th and Morgan in what police say was a gang related crime.

Tavon was among 19 people who were shot yesterday.

Nine of the victims were killed, making Monday Chicago's deadliest day in over 13 years.
