Christie Brinkley and John Mellencamp break up after a year of dating

Christie Brinkley and John Mellencamp have broken up after a year of dating, a rep for the former couple confirmed to People magazine.

The supermodel and musician first met at a party in the Hamptons last year.

"Both the mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship," their rep said. "They vowed to remain best of friends."

Brinkley hinted that their respective busy schedules played a major role in their relationship when she spoke to People earlier this year.

"You never really know what's going to happen," she admitted. "John and I are two people that have very full lives. We're just trying to enjoy each other when we can see each other and try not to put too much [pressure] on it."
