OnlyOnAOL: This will totally shock you about 'Suicide Squad'

"Suicide Squad" has gotten plenty of attention leading up to its Friday opening. And we caught up with Captain Boomerang Jai Courtney to get some major behind-the-scenes scoop.

For those not up to date, the latest comic book adaptation features a squad of metahumans (aka super-villains) with specific powers – Will Smith's Deadshot is a killer sniper, for example -- who unite to save the world and have to learn to work together under their pitiless commander (Viola Davis).

Yes, the shoot was totally bananas, and that was by design.

"It was pretty nuts. (Director) David (Ayer) just wanted to prepare us for something. He sets up a world that's grounded and rooted in authenticity. He wants it to feel lived in. Part of the process is getting martial arts training done," says Courtney.

The preparation was crazy.

"Some of us had to be super-big and buff. And there's the fight choreography. The shoot itself was amazing," says Courtney.

Jared Leto, as the Joker, didn't hang out with the cast and went full method.

"Jared didn't drop character. That was kind of nuts at first. But once we were working together, that seemed pretty logical. He didn't want to jump in and out of it all day. He wasn't engaging with us," says Courtney.

Yes, the cast is pretty massive, but Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and the rest of the skwad is tight.

"The bond between the cast was really real and genuine. That was borne of the process we underwent getting ready for it," says Courtney.

The actors communicate constantly. Yes, really.

"There's a text thread that's been going on between the entire squad for a year. We're talking daily," says Courtney.
