Grandfather Drowns Attempting To Rescue Grandson From Pool; Boy Survives

LANSING, Ill. (WGN) – A man drowned Wednesday afternoon in a private pool in suburban Lansing.

Neighbors tell WGN News a grandfather and his grandson were at the pool at a condo building in the 3200 block of N Manor Dr around 1 p.m. when the child began to struggle in the water.

A witness said the grandfather jumped in to try to save the boy but struggled as well.

A woman who also witnessed the incident was able to pull the child from the pool and help him to safety.

Witnesses say first responders preformed CPR on both the grandpa and grandson on the side of the pool.

The boy and the man were taken to the hospital where the man was initially listed in critical condition but later died.

The boy is expected to recover.

The identities and ages have not yet been released.
