People build 'Wall of Love' to block hate group's anti-LGBT protest at DNC

Before you go, we thought you'd like these...

The 2016 Democratic National Convention was pretty controversial; from DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz's surprise resignation to the email leaks and 'Bernie or Bust' protests, there was a lot to disagree on.

However, when designated 'hate' group Westboro Baptist Church announced plans to protest at an LGBT organization in Philadelphia, people put their differences aside to build a 'Great Wall of Love' along the protest area.

It seemed only fitting that this Great Wall of Love would happen in Philadelphia, otherwise known as "The City of Brotherly Love".

The counter protest was described as a "very peaceful blockade to shield the patients of the Mazzoni Center, an LGBTQIA-centric healthcare provider in Philadelphia," according to the Great Wall of Love's Facebook event.

Supporters came equipped with signs preaching everything from "God hates warm beer" to "Don't hate! Appreciate!"

The Westboro Baptist Church, best known for its homophobic and controversial protests at high-profile events, such as the DNC, has been officially denoted by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a "hate group".

WBC's efforts for anti-LGBT protests proved futile. People flocked to the Mazzoni Center in masses to block out the haters, literally, with their wall of love.

In the end, messages of love drowned out those of hate. As the protests cleared out, the message was clear: don't tread on love.
