Move over Snapchat! Instagram has released a new feature that may sound familiar. On Tuesday, Instagram released Instagram Stories, a "feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile."

In a statement Instagram writes:

With Instagram Stories, you don't have to worry about overposting. Instead, you can share as much as you want throughout the day — with as much creativity as you want. You can bring your story to life in new ways with text and drawing tools. The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won't appear on your profile grid or in feed.

The company says stories will be rolling out over the next few weeks on iOS and Android.

If you're a Snapchat user this feature probably sounds familiar to you. Snapchat is known for its Snapchat Stories feature that does pretty much the same thing as Instagram's new feature.

The move has been noted as a way for Facebook owned Instagram to compete with Snapchat's growing popularity.
